Kilimanjaro 8-Day Lemosho Route

Kilimanjaro 8-Day Lemosho Route, starting on Kilimanjaro’s scenic western side, provides a tranquil ascent through diverse landscapes. With a gradual elevation gain, this route enhances acclimatisation and significantly boosts summit success rates, making it a rewarding choice for climbers.

Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi to Londorosi Gate to Big Tree Campsite

  • Elevation: 1,200 m to 1,950 m to 2,850 m
  • Distance: 9 km
  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Montane Forest
  • Our Team will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Londorosi Gate for registration. Afterward, we continue to Lemosho Glade, where the trek begins through undisturbed montane forest, home to Black and White Colobus monkeys, to Big Tree Campsite for dinner and overnight.



    Day 2: Big Tree Campsite to Shira One Campsite

  • Elevation: 2,850 m to 3,500 m
  • Distance: 13 km
  • Hiking Time: 8 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland and Heather Land
  • This is an acclimatisation day, gaining 650 m in elevation as we trek across a beautiful valley and enter the Shira Caldera. This high-altitude desert was once part of an erupting peak. We camp at 3,500 m at Shira One Campsite.



    Day 3: Shira One Campsite to Shira Two Campsite

  • Elevation: 3,500 m to 3,800 m
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland and Rocky
  • We continue east across the Shira Plateau, visiting Cathedral Peak (3,850 m) for acclimatisation and panoramic views of Mount Meru and Kibo Peak. We then continue to Shira Two Campsite for overnight.



    Day 4: Shira Two Campsite to Barranco Campsite

  • Β Elevation: 3,800 m to 3,950 m
  • Distance: 13 km
  • Hiking Time: 7-8 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland
  • A long acclimatisation trek to Lava Tower (4,600 m) before descending to Barranco Campsite. This day helps with altitude adjustment.



    Day 5: Barranco Campsite to Karanga Campsite

  • Elevation: 3,950 m to 3,900 m
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland
  • A shorter trek, starting with a climb up the Barranco Wall to 4,200 m for acclimatisation. Afterward, we cross ridges and valleys to Karanga Campsite for lunch and rest.



    Day 6: Karanga Campsite to Barafu Campsite

  • Elevation: 3,900 m to 4,620 m
  • Distance: 8 km
  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
  • We trek to Barafu Campsite, a steep and challenging ascent across alpine desert. After an early dinner at 5:00 PM, rest until midnight for the summit attempt.



    Day 7: Barafu Hut to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Hut Campsite

  • Elevation: 4,620 m to 5,895 m to 3,100 m
  • Distance: 15 km
  • Hiking Time: 10-12 hours
  • Habitat: Desert and Ice
  • We begin the summit push at midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. After taking photos and celebrating, we descend to Barafu Hut for lunch and then continue down to Mweka Hut Campsite for dinner and overnight.



    Day 8: Mweka Hut to Mweka Gate

  • Elevation: 3,100 m to 1,700 m
  • Distance: 9 km
  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Montane Forest
  • On the final day of yourΒ  Kilimanjaro 8-Day Lemosho Route we descend through Montane Forest to Mweka Gate. After signing out, we’ll transfer you back to your hotel for your certificate presentation celebration.

    Visa
    To enter Tanzania, most traveler's require a tourist or business visa. You can apply for an e-visa online or obtain a visa on arrival at designated entry points. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date and has one blank page. Apply through the official Tanzania Immigration website for an e-visa or obtain a visa on arrival at major entry points.



    Yellow Fever
    Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for travelers arriving from Countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. This also applies to those who have transited through such countries for 12 hours or more. Upon arrival, you must present a valid vaccination certificate



    Zanzibar Insurance Policy
    As of October 1, 2024, Zanzibar requires all visitors (excluding residents) to obtain mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for the duration of their stay, up to 92 days.

    Where to Buy:
    Only available through Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) International travel insurance policies are not accepted; only the ZIC policy meets the entry requirements. It's advisable to purchase the insurance in advance to avoid delays upon arrival.
