Our Story: Humble Porter to Running Safaris

From a humble Kilimanjaro porter to a successful entrepreneur, Philbert’s journey is a testament to his passion for Tanzania and his commitment to providing exceptional travel experiences. He runs the business with his beloved wife Cilla.

From Porter to Pioneer

2011: The Start of a Journey: Born and raised in Kilimanjaro, Philbert embarked on his adventure as a porter on Mount Kilimanjaro, carrying essential supplies for climbers. This experience gave him firsthand knowledge of the challenges and rewards of trekking in Tanzania. This provided Philbert the money for college education (wildlife and french language) and driving school.
2012: A Step Up: Recognising his potential and french language skills, Philbert was promoted to a guide, leading climbers on the renowned Lemosho and Machame routes. His in-depth understanding of the mountain and his ability to connect with clients made him a popular choice among travellers.
2013: Supporting volunteers from around the world: Philbert’s passion for helping others led him to become a volunteer coordinator in Arusha. He assisted international volunteers in settling into the local community and contributing to various projects.
2016: Expanding Horizons: With a growing desire to share the beauty of Tanzania beyond the mountain peaks, Philbert ventured into safari guiding. He explored the diverse ecosystems of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience.
2018: A Dream Realised: In 2018, Philbert’s dream took shape with the founding of MyTrip2Tanzania Holidays. Armed with his local expertise and unwavering dedication, he set out to create a travel company that offers authentic and personalised experiences.
2019: Finding love: Philbert met his future wife, Cilla from Switzerland, through a chance encounter (ask us about it when you’re safariing with us!). Together, they built up the business from both Arusha and Europe, and Philbert learnt German to add to his English and French language skills.
2021: A Home Away from Home: To provide a comfortable and convenient stay for his clients, Philbert and Cilla opened a guesthouse in Arusha, offering a serene oasis before and after their safaris.

Through their journey, Philbert and Cilla have gained a deep understanding of what travellers seek in a Tanzanian experience. They combine their passion, knowledge and experience to curate unforgettable adventures that leave a lasting impact.
