Tips for the Lake Duluti Walking & Canoeing Trip
Wear Comfortable Footwear: For the nature walk, wear sturdy, comfortable shoes suitable for walking on forest trails. Lightweight hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers are ideal.
Bring a Hat and Sunscreen: Even though the trails are shaded, it's always good to protect yourself from the sun. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen will help keep you comfortable, especially during midday.
Keep Your Camera Ready: The scenery around Lake Duluti is stunning, with excellent photo opportunities, especially of the wildlife and views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. Be sure to bring a camera with a good zoom lens for birdwatching.
Carry Water and Snacks: It’s a good idea to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated, especially if you're hiking during the warmer parts of the day. A light snack can also be useful for energy during your walk.
Respect Wildlife: While the animals around the lake are beautiful to observe, it’s important to maintain a safe distance and avoid disturbing them. This is especially true for the monkeys and birds.
Dress in Layers: The weather around Lake Duluti can vary throughout the day. A light jacket or sweater can be useful for the cooler mornings and evenings.
Check the Weather Forecast: While it’s a great activity all year round, check the weather forecast before your trip to ensure a pleasant experience. Clear skies will give you the best views of the surrounding mountains.
Timing: To avoid the heat, consider doing the nature walk early in the morning or later in the afternoon. The canoe trip can be done at any time but is especially peaceful in the morning when the lake is calm.
Guide Assistance: Take full advantage of your guide’s knowledge about the area. They can point out wildlife, birds, and hidden gems you may miss on your own.
